‘Ganja’ farmer arrested in Kasungu

A 51 year old Malawian man identified as Sitolo Banda is in police custody after he was found cultivating Indian hemp inside his tobacco farm in Kasungu district, police have confirmed.

According, Kasungu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Harry Namwaza, the law enforcers had been working on a tip that Banda had planted the ‘illegal’ plant inside his tobacco farm.

It is by this tip that the poplice officers went to he filed where they found the plant and uprooted over 2000 stems.

 

“Officers followed the information and established that the suspect had planted Indian hemp in the middle of Barley tobacco crop.

Police say Banda who hails from Galika Village, Traditional Authority Mwase in the district will appear before court to answer the charge of cultivating Indian hemp.
