Malawi Govt to launch Gender Policy

The ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare will launch the country’s Gender Policy on the March 8, the day when Malawi will also be commemorating International Day of Women.

The International Day of Women is aimed at celebrating women’s achievements across nations.

Minister responsible Patricia Kaliati said government is making strides to improve lives of women in the country by enhancing women’s education.

”Our ministry with the continuation of the He for She campaign, we are championing the improvement of women’s education and sexual reproductive health,” said Kaliati.

She added that the International Day of Women will look into the challenges faced by women and will also celebrate women’s achievements.

Kaliati further said that after recognising the job done by women, there is need to close the gap between men and women.

As one way of closing the gap between men and women, the minister said government will be initiating additional programmes on the already existing ones with the aim of empowering women.

“We will be putting in place strategies that will specifically target women. This will include areas such as education, health and agriculture among others,” she said.  

According to Kaliati, the theme for this year is ‘Commitment for Action and for parity’’ which is in line with closing the gap between men and women.

Kaliati also claimed that the President Peter Mutharika has made strides in promoting women by putting them in decision making positions in the public sector.

  5. Let me tel u the resoan wy men earn more than women is because the way they negotiate while women are more subtle.Many women tend to worry about how they will come across to the employer while men do not give a second thought becoz to them it is just business.lol
