He may not have had any problems as he claimed over the weekend, but Malawi President Peter Mutharika must be bracing himself for massive demonstrations against him if he does not resign together with the entire cabinet, opposition parties in the country have revealed.

The revelations were made by Peoples Party (PP) Acting Vice President Kamlepo Kalua during a joint rally the party held together with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) as well as the Alliance for Democracy (Aford) in Lilongwe.

According to Kalua the protests will take place if the Malawi leader whom he has been dubbing ‘visionless’ does not give in to calls for him to step down.

The opposition parties claim that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader has failed to man the nation as evident with the current socio-economic woes.

Kalua told the gathering that the opposition parties intend to set protests against Mutharika if he does not resign in the given period of 90 days which has already started ticking.

” We call upon him (Mutharika) to peacefully resign or face national wide vigils against him. Malawians are suffering out there and they need a leader who should be able to do what they want and also listen to advice” he said.

MCP leader Lazarous Chakwera could not hide his disappointment in the Mutharika led government so did Aford president Enoch Chihana.

The two said they want Mutharika and his cabinet to step down or make sure the current troubled waters Malawi is sailing through are cleared.

Lately, the DPP government has been accused of not listening to advice from the other parties, analysts, commentators and the media. The party has been blamed for taking every advice as being politically driven.

Mutharika’s government has since denied to step down  as called by his critics whom he recently said have problems.
