Blantyre based netball team Thunder Queens can breathe a sigh of relief following a donation from Vanguard Life Assurance Company.
The insurance firm donated K250,000 to the team in response to plea by the netball club as it is facing financial tight corners.
Thunder were last sponsored by Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) and since the company stopped sponsoring them, they have been relying on well-wishers for financial assistance.
Speaking to malawi24 after the donation Vanguard managing director Noah Mupfurutsa said they thought of helping the team after they were approached by the club’s officials.
“The company is celebrating its 15 years of doing business in Malawi and we thought it wise to celebrate with Thunder Queens hence the donation,” Mupfulutsa said.
The team’s captain Joana Kachilika received the cheque on behalf of her fellow players and applauded Vanguard for the donation to the team. She also asked other stakeholders and individuals to help the team since it is still struggling financially.
“We are having tight fixtures ahead which require a lot of money and we ask for help,” Kachilika said.
