The ministry of gender children and social welfare has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Youth Net and Counseling (YONECO), committing themselves to strengthening the fight against women and children abuse.
Principal Secretary in the ministry Mary Shawa said the Memorandum of Understanding will help address issues of abuse against women and children in the country.
”This Memorandum of Understanding will help a lot in curbing abuses encountered by women in the country,” said Shawa.
According to Shawa, there has been an increase in the number of defilement cases, killings of the elderly on allegations that they practice witchcraft, and cases of abuse against women.
She however said the agreement will assist victimized women and children in various societies in the country.
Shawa further said that one of the ministry’s mandates is to protect the vulnerable groups as well as to help them live a better life.
