…Unima gives first lady PhD
As the grab for titles is on a rampage in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Malawi24 can exclusively reveal that the university of Malawi has awarded the first lady with an honorary doctorate degree in Environmental Management.
According to a document that Malawi24 has seen, the university of Malawi’s Polytechnic is the college that has offered to award Mutharika a doctorate.
A source told Malawi24 that Mutharika was being awarded for her Beautify Malawi project.
“The university felt that the first lady has done a tremendous job in improving the environment of our country through BEAM and she is therefore deserving of an award,” said the source.
BEAM is an initiative set up by the first lady which aims to encourage Malawians to take care of the environment. However in its few years of existence it has been embroidered in corruption with the NAC gate being the most prominent.
Mutharika becomes the third person in the ruling circle to get a PhD after Mutharika’s aide Ben Phiri earned a PhD from some dubious university. The vice president Saulos Chilima also got a PhD.
