The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Saturday afternoon awarded CAF A Coaching certificates to 27 local coaches at Mpira Village in Chiwembe.

FAM and CAF conducted the course for 30 days last year from which all the candidates successfully passed to acquire the highest coaching license in Africa.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Fa president Walter Nyamilandu urged the coaches to be active saying they have got what it takes to succeed in the beautiful game of football.

Declerk Msakakuona was on of the coaches who got the certificates.

He also said the myth that only former players makes good coaches is wrong saying those that passed with flying colors never played football before.

“By passing the course with 100 percent shows that Malawi has a crop of talented coaches who can succeed well in this field. “I am urging them not to stop learning as coaching is a continuous process. They must aim higher,” he said.

He then promised coaches who do not have minimum coaching qualification that the association will soon start courses to enable every coach to have minimum requirement in line with club licensing.

“FAM will ensure that requirements on minimum qualification for each level will be implemented from this year going onwards.”

“We want to have coaches with requirements to be in charge of our clubs. Football is now scientific and there is a need to equip our coaches with these certificates,” he concluded.

Coaches Association of Malawi (CAM) chairman Benjamin Kumwenda was the best student with 98 percent, seconded by Declerk Msakakuona of Blue Eagles and Thom Nkolongo of Malawi Womens National football team.

Maggie Chombo was the only female candidate to have attended the course and passed successfully.

Millias Pofera, Billy Phambala, Kondwani Mwalweni were some of the coaches to have been awarded the certificates.
