A strike by medical doctors at Namanja Health centre in Machinga district has led to the death of a cholera struck patient as he had no one to attend to him.

According to reports that Malawi24 has the medical personnel are against their unpaid locum allowances which they have been asking for a ‘long time.’

It is said the doctors having hit a snag on their requests for the allowances agreed to leave cholera patients attended to so that management would give them a befitting response on the same.

The medics have also been calling for their overtime allowances, demands which have all not been properly and formally responded to by authorities.

Malawi24 has also been highly tipped by locals in the area that about seven patients at the facility are left in a critical state.

The doctors also claim that their colleague in other facilities are getting paid highly for treating cholera patients, something which they are reportedly finding as backing to their claims.

When the disease first hit the country starting on Boxing Day last year, there was a total number of 722 patients.

A report the ministry has released shows that, as of last week, the total number of cholera patients in treatment camps nationwide is 11. Of the 11, Zomba has three patients, Phalombe has six and Karonga has two.

Since when are they medical doctors at health centers, get the facts straight before reporting thats a clinical officer or medical officer.it’s a pity that you blame this clinicians,do you expect him to keep working for no pay am sure these allowance he/she is fighting for are for months maybe even years.it is the govt who have failed the patient for they fail to prioritize human life.people cannot not be working for no pay, mind you these diseases are contagious why must one risk their life.what about the health providers family.pray for your country’s leadership, pray that they start to take human life seriously or you’ll have more cases like this.infact you can take it upon yourself pay a fine at the hospital to ensure health providers get paid.demand better health

  6. I understand their (doctors) intentions, but the way they chose to push for their allowance increments is so inhuman. You cant just let a person suffer to death when you have what it takes to help them. Where is the love? why not protest in another way?
