Federation for Disability Organisations in Malawi (Fedoma) says rights of people with mental health problems need to be respected in the country.

Fedoma Head of Programmes Simon Munde made the remarks at a training on national disability mainstreaming strategy for Mental Health Users and Carers Association (MEHUCA) in Blantyre on Wednesday.

Munde said mental health is a very serious issue in the country since citizens violates the rights of mentally ill people.

He said the situation forced his organisation to conduct the training in order to curb violations against people who are mentally ill.

Speaking at the event, MEHUCA Chairperson Simon Thom said the training will enable them to understand the rights of people suffering from mental health problems as there are more reports of such violations.

  1. Xcept for right to marry, other wise the marriage will be associated with women abuse. They don’t deserve 100% rights. I can give them only 3rights (to eat, medication and fashion)
