Trouble in MCP, Kabwila tears Chakwera apart: ‘we are being undemocratic and unconstitutional’
The opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is failing to have its house in order. This is after media reports have quoted the Party’s spokesperson Jessie Kabwila as saying that the party has stopped following its own constitution. Kabwila made the remarks after the party suspended 7 chairpersons.
The suspension has come after the chairpersons expressed displeasure with the way the party President Lazarus Chakwera was failing to handle conflicts in the party.
“The 7 rebelled by speaking out publicly against the leadership and we therefore thought that it is best to discipline them,” said a source who opted for anonymity.
The source said that all parties have got rules of discipline that are supposed to guide the members. He said MCP was emphatic on the rules of discipline.
However the suspension done on behalf of Chakwera has rattled the party spokesperson Jessie Kabwila who media reports have lately said is not seeing eye to eye with the party President.
“I am surprised that this (the suspension) has happened. This is unconstitutional,” the MCP spokesperson has been quoted as saying in the media.
Kabwila has been quoted saying that by suspending those with dissenting views the MCP was failing to embrace elements of democracy and was throwing away the need for contact and dialogue.
The MCP has a history of dealing with a heavy hand all people who choose to disagree with what the party thinks.

Mayi Kabwila don’t be stupid and don’t make yourself ignorant as these other people around. Tell me is suspension in any case a dismissal? Even at work places, schools and wherever you may think of people are suspended, suspension is just one way of disciplining people. I for one don’t see anything wrong…..and these chairmen deserve to be dismissed from the party…..I don’t care! We need development conscious minds in leadership not atidye nawo.
