New Clerk of Parliament (CoP) Fiona Kalemba has taken oath of office today, weeks after a court in Mzuzu put an end to controversy that surrounded her appointment.
After administering the oath, Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda advised Kalemba to be professional if she wants to carry out her duties effectively and efficiently.
Nyirenda also said Kalemba should exercise her duties fairly and in accordance with the laws of the land.
President Peter Mutharika appointed Kalemba as CoP last year saying she is a professional and has vast experience in bill drafting, one of the prerequisite qualifications.
However, in November last year, four members of Parliament, Harry Mkandawire, Kamlepo Kalua, Peter Chakhwantha and Enoch Chihana obtained an injunction after it was learnt that Kalemba had emerged third during the interviews for CoP conducted by Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) in October 2015.
Two weeks ago, the High Court in Mzuzu ruled that Kalemba can be sworn in as Clerk of Parliament (CoP), dismissing the four members of parliament.
