A 15 year-old boy has died while four other boys have suffered injuries in a grenade blast at Njuli Terrastone site in Chiradzulu district.

Confirming to Malawi24, Chiradzulu police spokesperson Sergeant Victoria Chirwa said the boys were playing around the site at night on Monday this week.

“We got the information at around 8pm that there was a big explosion at Njuli Quarry site, so we rushed to confirm the incident,” said Chirwa.

Chirwa further said the deceased boy, James Gray, was confirmed dead at Chiradzuru District Hospital while three of the boys have been admitted at the same hospital.
According to Chirwa, the fifth boy, Manuel Samuel, has been referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) for further treatment.

The deceased boy was related to the other five boys and he hailed from Chikuse Village, Traditional Authority Mpama in Chiradzuru district.
