Malawi Police at the Mwanza border post have arrested a Congolese national for attempting to get into the country using a fake Malawian traveling document.
According to Mwanza border post’s public relations officer, Sergeant Pasquall Zulu, the 32 year-old got nabbed on Monday.
The spokesperson said the foreigner was reluctant to show his traveling document at the border and was trying to get into Malawi without his traveling document stamped.
Zulu said upon seeing what the suspect was doing, police at the border post apprehended the man and thereafter started searching his belongings only to find a fake Malawi emergency traveling document.
According to Zulu, the fake document’s number was N008418 and it was showing that it was issued on January 15, 2016 to a person from Mbayani in the area of Traditional Authority Machinjiri in the commercial city of Blantyre.
Upon being interrogated about the matter, the suspect told the police that he got the document from a certain Malawian man in South Africa.
Meanwhile, Malawi police are keeping the foreigner in their custody at the Mwanza prison and he is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of illegal entry into the country and forgery which is contrary to section 21 subsection 1 of the Immigration Act.
