More Kalibu Academy abuse Victims tell their stories

…Pastors are engaging in witchcraft

…Headmaster Paisley Mavutula accused of beinrevealed as womanizer

…Additional reports of physical beatings

As we continue to investigate the homosexual, physical and verbal abuse at Kalibu Academy, former employee who has asked for anonymity has claimed that the School Headmaster Paisley Mavutula slept with his wife and brutally beat him on more than one occasion.

The employee told this private investigator that he was sent to Chichiri  prison for some wrongdoing and Mavutula and Michael Howard promised to take care of the employee’s wife.  Instead, when she presented herself at Kalibu, Mavutula forced her to have sex with him in order to receive financial support. When employee was released and his wife confessed to him, he confronted Mavutula who beat him with a rubber hose and then threatened to have him sent back to prison. The victim was fired from Kalibu Academy by Paisley for rebuking him of having sex with his wife. By that time, Mavutula was also sleeping with  Msongole’s landlady.

Says the victim, “When I was in prison my wife used to go to Kalibu to get assistance as promised by Michael Thomas Howard.  Paisley Mavutula took advantage of this and forced my wife to sleep with him.”

Kalibu, which claims to be a Christian run institution, has also been exposed as practicing witchcraft.  The tendency of beating desks, clapping hands and shouting loud when praying have been reported by several eyewitnesses.  There is mandatory forced prayer each morning and Headmaster Paisley Mavutula forces everyone to “pray in tongues.”  When they don’t, the consequences are physical beatings.  He says that this type of praying is the “spirit moving around.”  When anyone tries to pray sincerely to the Lord, Mavutula calls them out and tells them to “stop spiritualizing yourself.”

Whenever an employee gets fired, Michael Howard and Paisley Mavutula engage in further witchcraft by forcing other staff members to pray for that ex employee to die wherever he goes.

Some of those that this witchcraft were prayed against for their death are Paul Kantima, for revealing that Michael Howard is gay and Kabowo for removing his wife from Kalibu when she was pastoring there.

Our source, like many other pastors, was receiving financial support from donors in America, but Kalibu was keeping most of the money that they were sent and only giving a small part to the pastors.  He recounts one donor who gave $100 USD to Kalibu for him, but what he received was only MK1500.  The rest was stolen by Kalibu.

Paisley Mavutula: Heads the institution now.

The victimised employee survived with only minor scars on his body, received from being beaten by both Paisley Mavutula and Michael Howard with a rubber hose pipe.  He said Howard also has a red and black “rod” that he brought back from Zambia, which is used in beatings as well.

“Every black person at Kalibu is beaten and Howard calls us “creatures, monkeys and headless chickens. Every Man he has had sex with with has been given money and sent outside the country so that later he does not reveal,” he told our reporter.

According to one Pastor who worked for the academy but did not want to be mentioned either, he met Michael Howard long before he built the magnificent Kalibu Academy, and was working with one milling company in Blantyre for maize flour…and when the company was sold, then he started looking for greener pastures and ventured into the ministry known today as Kalibu Kwa Yesu Ministries.

“During those years he was visiting all those places with my elder brother i, who is now deceased. When my brother  asked Michael about his marriage he would simply say he lost his wife and has no interest in women, only in God. Despite claiming to be a man of God, he is a cruel person. Beating his junior Pastors was not news at all.”

“He would ask four people to hold one person both arms and legs and then Michael would hold a hose pipe and start hitting on the back of the offender.  He could do anything to his juniors, though the sodomy I guess would be done in secrecy.  He was always spending time with men in his room at odd hours in the name of discussions,” recalls the pastor.

Kalibu Academy student Lughano Ghambi, who is currently in university, reports that when he was at Kalibu in form 5, he and two of his other friends, Wanga Mavumbe and Khumbo Kawonga were called outside the main hall right before morning assembly. They were told to get searched by Mrs Chivongozi and told they were accused of having a cell phone.

Explained Ghambi, “They searched all three of us but nothing was found. We where then told to go to the main gate and wait for further instructions. As a couple of hours passed by and everyone was in class, the Headmaster Mr Mavutula came up and started to interrogate us. He threatened he would beat us until we handed over the phone which they didn’t find while searching us. The afternoon passed while still on the main gate.  When evening came, Mr Mavutula came again and told us we would sleep outside at the gate if the phone was not found. We took this as an empty threat and when it was 9pm we still found ourselves at the gate.”

“When Mavutula left his office, he ordered the guards that they shouldn’t let us go anywhere but stay at the gate until morning.  At around midnight they brought us two bed sheets to use, and so we spent the night in May, 2013 outside.  We could do nothing, so we slept on the grass until morning and actually woke up when the workers were flocking in the gates making noise.”

“They took us to the hostel to have a quick breakfast and back to the gate. The second day was actually the day Wanga Mavumbe was starting to write his biology paper for IGCSE, but had spent the night on the gate without studying. They took him to write the paper and left the other two of us at the gate.”

“At around 4pm, the Headmaster called us and told us we would get expelled as they still wanted the phone that they didn’t find while searching us. Later that day he told us to go and he should never see us at the administration block again,” added Ghambi.

Other victims of abuse have told this investigator that they have similar stories, but are afraid to come forward publicly because Paisley Mavutula will bribe local police officials and have them arrested for telling.

As we continue to dig deeper into this secrecy, we will continue to report the latest news and developments.

  1. I’ll be straight up with you people, before publishing this article know what you are talking about: I’ve been at the school for 4 years now, the only report that I can clearly stand for is that of the physical torture ( corporal punishment) but when a student is applying for the school they have to agree to those beatings,so by joining the school, the student is well aware what the have coming to them. Aside that an issue rarely addressed, religion: The only reason why students are forced to sing and dance at church and assembly is to encourage the worship team not to be de-moralised by null response from students. Of course there are several cases of emotional abuse especially with the use of words and the all-too-shameful on-stage embarrassments .

  5. I for one had so much respect for this school, I am a Zimbabwean parent and the way they used to come and advertise the school, it would be every parent’s wish to send their kids to. We were promised kids will have five star meals no need for tuck. Only to be shocied with reports from kids on the food they ate and that they would go hungry. What worries me was the fact thqt kids were not allowed to bring tuck but to buy from the tuckshop and yet they did not have a good variety of stuff.

As if that was not enough, I still have a grivience with the school because we were made to pay fees over and above the other students. And wen went to querry u wld b met with rage and furry to make it worse u wld think if u discuss with the schooo head the issue wld be resolved instead it was swept under the carpet without proper expalination.

We we made to live kids by the gate imagine with all the luggage to be searched and had to carry those bags to the hostels which was quite a distance, I felt that was abuse to our children. I always wanted to get to the hostels but alas it was forbidden for parents to gey to hostels, which got me thinking and have suspicion as to why we were not allowed.

It like this school had no policies and procedures in place because even teachers were afraid to get into trouble if they divulge information. It wld seem to me students had different fee structures

We thank God for tgis revelation and for you to think parents we send children and leave them in the care of such people who are enganged in such activities is quite frightening. But we thank God for having taken care of our kids for He endureth forever!!!

    1. Dear Parent,

You are right about so many things. The food at Kalibu has always been a problem. That’s pretty funny that you were told 5 star meals! The Tuck shop is owned and managed by Linda Mavutula, who takes all the profit to spend.

They have a great kitchen staff at Kalibu, but the staff aren’t allowed to prepare good meals. Instead, Paisley yells at the kids to eat all their food or be punished. I’ve been there in assembly when he appointed a student as head of each table, like student police. He screamed at the students that if they didn’t eat all their food, the one appointed as the head of the table had to eat everything left!

Boarders are treated the worst, because the staff knows that they have control of them for 6 days a week, and there’s nothing they can do. If they do complain to their parents, Paisley tells the parents they’re lying, and then punishes them for saying anything.

The reason the staff doesn’t want parents in the hostels is so that no one can see how bad they are. I had a hard time getting in myself to see them, but I did, and they look like prison dormitories. There are not enough bathrooms or showers, so the kids have to get up at 4 am in order to even have time for a quick shower.

Any parent who has a child there should demand to see everything before handing over one kwacha to this school.

Thank God that He has protected so many children that have survived this abuse.

  9. Well,I am the said Alinune Msongole, not Nasopole nor Nansongole priscais saying, this shows that you do not know know but you are told to say.First of all,you have to know that i know much about Kalibu kwa Yesu more than every one of you.i came there when i was 10 years old, iwas not just asimple employee but first i was the adopted son to Pastor Howard, second, iwas the overall pastor over all Church es in malawi as well in Mozambique. its me who trained & gave the atest for thee pastors to be qualified, ihave all the evidence on what am sa saying with supporting documents from pastor Howard.

  10. Justin bakili. Wat ever you call yourself u r a big lier. U have Neva worked at Malibu. I’ve been there my self for 3 solid year as a chemistry teacher. The article is veri true I have seen the abuse with my own eyes. If u think am lying, check on kalibu website u will see my face as a teacher. Justin u shud shut up. Let us save inoscent children here. If u hav been fucked by pezile himself just stop it and feel ashamed of ur self.

    1. For real! Worked there for 15 years? I’ve been there many times and have never met you or heard your name before today. Where do you work at Kalibu?

  11. I am tires of hearing our Malawian children being whipped. Canned. Spatted upon. Verbally abused. Slapped. Butchered. When ministry and govnt ofdixuals arw there. Wake up madam kaliati. Du your job as required by law otherwise we Malawians will ask u to resign fo incompetence

    1. Honorable Kaliati says in the article that she is investigating, but then we hear from many other people that she has received financial favors from Paisley. Which is the true story. Just two days ago I was told by someone close to Kalibu that they were paying for a roof on Honorable Kaliati’s house. Another person reported that Michael bragged about putting water wells in her district to get her elected in the first place. Are these people telling the truth, or will she do something about this abuse and arrest these men who are committing these acts. Michael isn’t even a Malawian citizen! How is it that he is allowed to come to the country whenever he wants with no problems, especially after all of this was already revealed in 2011?

    1. Graham,

This is a very true statement. How long before some of the top level government officials that are not subject to bribery step in and do something about this abuse?

  12. And you still call him a pastor? Pezile is evil trust me. He even abuses his own maids by sleeping with them. Arrest him. Where are the police for christ sake in Malawi.

    1. None of them are Pastors. Paisley is not qualified to teach a class, much less head the school and where did he receive his ordination?

Michael was certainly ordained years ago, but he lost the right to be called Pastor when he began using the pulpit as a platform to abuse others.

He was ordained in the Assemblies of God, the very organization now investigating him for abuse in America.

  13. Kumangofalitsa nkhani zopanda umboni, Malawi 24 ndiye kuti chiyani zopusa!! Mwasowa zochita eti pitani kumudzi mukalime umbuli wanu nonse,

  14. Y Moze Collins J NKhalola do u remember we r accusing zodick by publicizing lies so now.this what happen in malawi read and investigate if is true ask that man on the pixture he csn tell you more kkkkkkkkk

  15. This school is shit….I hve experienced it myself….this is not an exaggeration or anything….it us utterly true….despite the high quality teaching standards….the physical and verbal abuse at this educational institute has always been out of hand….and needs to be dealt with instantly

  16. What is the Ministry of Education doing about this? Many students at Kalibu Academy are complaining of illtreatment while paying huge sums of school fees. This is not in connection with school rules but toture yet they claim that they are a christian school. Please the Ministry of Education take care.

    1. These are very good questions. We are asking the same ones. When the deputy Minister of Education, Honorable Sajeni was notified in 2011, action was promised, but 5 years later it’s the same story with many more victims.

    1. The way they treated students was not right… We did things (some that we ourselves didnt approve of) due to the fear they instilled in us.(by sticks…Mr Muhango the inspector even had different shapes and sizes of bamboo sticks can you imagine?)

And why didnt they let our parents go to the hostels? Very suspicious. I believe they shouldn’t have forced cetrain things on us too. The food we got was insufficient plus that at the tuck shop wasn’t even of any nutritional value. Yet they didn’t allow us to bring extra tuck like cereals and chips etc just sauces and tea… Did they honestly think we could feed on tomato sauce having woken up at midnight due to hunger? One day, a teacher called Mrs Ngugama just burst into one of the girls’ hostels and swung a broom nearby angrily. People fled like chickens when you just set foot into a chicken run, onto ladders, onto bed, off to the bathroom we were completely shaken by the suddenness of it all and without warning too. She even injured one student but the girl said nothing, she was too terrified of the woman. A broom seriously? What kind of “sparing the rod” is that? :-/

And from my point of view, worship in the mornings was not for the Lord, most of us were just basically having fun (we were told to dance…some people even used kwaito dance moves) the purpose of the whole session was tarnished. And another day, Mr Howard visited the school and we sang ‘I’m going to march to heaven one day’ in the morning. We didn’t finish the son though; Howard stopped it abruptly saying this was not for the Lord but rather for self pleasure and that this song would never be sung again in the school. The next day, Mr Paisley, who had danced so energetically, stomping his feet on the stage and holding the microphone singing his lungs out to the same song in the preceding days, put on a disgusted face in assembly, saying the song was forbidden and tat the song was “nonsense” (oh and he likes that word very much).

Is he not a hypocrite? I mean there’s more to a person than what meets the eye. Believe me, he was very sweet and well mannered towards our parents but once the gates were closed and our parents were gone, not everything was rosy. he would even criticize our parents I cried several nights, I hated the school, the way were treated… But it was OK to some extent I guess

Prep time for the girls wasn’t even pleasurable, we had to walk about 1 km each night to the prep room (I.e the classrooms) from the hostels AT NIGHT. IN THE DARK. WITH NO LIGHTS. WHERE WEIRD THINGS CAN HAPPEN AND PEOPLE CAN FALL OFF THE BRIDGE SEPARATING THE CLASSES FROM THE BORDERS HOSTELS. WHERE SNAKES AND OTHER CREATURES COULD EASILY CREEP UP ON US. it was even worse in winter… The girls were not allowed to wear pants/trousers or even pulling socks… You can imagine how many people were visiting the nurse that season…

I could go on but what’s the point? It wasn’t the most pleasurable experience but at least it made me stay in contact with God because I was just so troubled God just gave me hope, my Christian faith was like the only positive aspect of my life during my stay at Kalibu.. You know though people (students) did wrong, I believe we all still deserved our fair share of love and since they didn’t allow us Phones to communicate with our parents what were we supposed to do in lonely times? I mean yeah friends were available but sometimes a parent is more…what can I say…preferable… Much better than a friend..

PS. I was a top student in academics, I won’t complain about the education system, it was standard… But when it came to discipline they had it awfully wrong ⊙▽⊙

      1. Thank you for the honest assessment. This is a very well written response. The worship is not worship at all, and this was one of the major things that I confronted Paisley and Michael about. You don’t play worship music and then yell at students to raise their hands!

Assembly itself is nothing more than a form of control over students. I hated having to sit on the stage while students stand, but was prevented from joining them every time I asked. Most of assembly is yelling at students for what they’re doing wrong, instead of instilling Godly values and encouraging them to do right.

Paisley and Michael both are like different people when parents and guests are around, and most parents just don’t believe what their kids are subject to, which is nothing more than verbal and physical abuse on a daily basis.

Any parent that continues to leave their child at Kalibu after these truths have been revealed is no better than the administration. You have no excuse for continuing to allow your children to suffer under this abuse any longer.

I had a heart for the students and teachers from the first minute I set foot on the compound and I could sense how afraid and beaten down all of them were.

I encourage any student that has a story to tell to contact us and let us share it with others so this can be stopped once and for all. You can email us at:

What utter nonsense. No man is going to come forward and testify to homosexual abuse done to him unless it is very serious. It is shameful and disgraceful for everyone involved.

The only hearsay here are the people that Paisley has told to post comments or paid to post comments. How much is that? mk1000? mk2000?
