Traditional leaders in the country have expressed concern over the low number of subsidized farm inputs that are being distributed in parts of the country by the Malawi government.

Group Village Headman (GVH) Nzeru from Blantyre made the complaint after his subjects received 300 bags of subsidy fertilizer to cater for 5,000 households.

Speaking to the local media, GVH Nzeru said that even though this is the rainy season, the government has not yet provided the remaining inputs to the residents.

He added that he is falling to answer some of the questions that his subjects are asking regarding the Farm Input Subsidy Program (Fisp).

Chiefs
Have raised a public outcry.

He further revealed that chiefs from other areas in the district are also complaining over the same issue. Commenting on the issue, one of the beneficiaries, Mary Phiri, described the Fisp inputs as inadequate saying they will not be enough for her land.

She explained that other people in the community have lost hope as they were told to wait for 10 days for another consignment of the inputs.

According to our findings, some parts of the country are also falling to access the subsidized items while in some parts where the inputs are available, they are being sold at a higher price than the government set price.

Malawi24 has also learnt that the program has left out a lot of needy people in the country.
