Malawi’s newly appointed Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba will have to wait until next year to know if she will take up the post.
This follows Judge Dingiswayo Madise’s decision on Tuesday to set 12 January 2016 as the day for ruling on an injunction obtained by four legislators.
The four MPs – Harry Mkandawire, Enock Chihana, Peter Chakhwantha and Kamlepo Kalua – obtained the injunction to stop the swearing in of Kalemba as new Clerk of Parliament claiming that she came third in interviews administered by Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
They accused President Peter Mutharika of showing favouritism because he appointed Kalemba and left out High Court Judge Charles Mkandawire who came first during interviews.
Among other things, the legislators want Mkandawire to be appointed as Clerk of Parliament.
Meanwhile, one of the legislators, Harry Mkandawire who is MP for Mzimba South has pulled out of the case while Lilongwe Msozi South legislator Vitus Dzoole Mwale has replaced him.
President Mutharika appointed Kalemba as Clerk of Parliament in November after being impressed with her experience in drafting bills.
