Mireia Lalaguna Royo, a 23-year-old professional model from Barcelona, wins the beauty pageant in Sanya, China. Miss England failed to make the top 20.

Miss Spain won the famous beauty pagent, and England didn’t even get a look in.

Scotland and Northern Ireland made the Top Ten, while England didn’t even make the Top 20.

The one week event marked its onset on 12th December with the 114 beauty queens getting grouped to compete in different activities.

The reigning Miss World, South Africa’s Rolene Strauss, crowned her successor at the event.

The event was live by E! Television and CCTV.

On a sad note Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, did not participate  after the ‘death’ of the national beauty contest due to serious defects in organisation. All that remains are district and school level beauty contests.

The country last participated at the global competition in 2012 when Susan Mtegha, the then Miss Malawi, made headlines for pushing Miss New Zealand at the event.

She claimed that it was her turn to stand on the spot and the New Zealander had stood still although her time was up, therefore a push was the only alternative.

Her journey was also marred with misfortune as she fainted at an airport China when she was about to fly back home and she had to be accommodated at the home of Malawi’s ambassador to China until she was fit enough to return. Neighbours, Zambia and Tanzania, are among those in the hot chase for the prestigious crown.

It is not clear so far as to who will replace Rolene Strauss but it is Africa’s prayer that the South African will be succeeded by a fellow African.
