Malawi can boast about many dancehall artists but failure to sound unique has reduced some of them to ghosts.

However, Innocent Mlinga, who uses the stage name Phexy Sedo, is knocking on the doors of local music industry with full energy.

The 21 year-old Lilongwe based artist is doing more than his age can allow when it comes to making good dancehall hits.

He has recently recorded a single titled “Kamafuna ndikale” at Warge Records, with love as its main concept.

“It’s all about a girl, someone has been wishing to date but fear of rejection draws him back against making a move. After sometime he decides just to talk to her, to his surprise the girl likes him, an indication of mutual feelings,” Sedo told Malawi24.

The up and coming dancehall sensational does not have a long history with music as he started two years ago while in secondary school.

In 2013 and 2014, he was doing music for fun but this year he decided to become serious.

Coming from a city that produces good dancehall artists, Sedo dreams of making a name in the local music industry and surviving on it just like artists in other countries do.

His dreams motivated him to involve services of renowned music producer, Warge.

He said: “My friend introduced me to Warge last month; eventually we have established a healthy working relationship.”

The “Kamafuna ndikhale” track is one of the best releases of this year making Sedo a future competitor with established artists in the genre.

In this regard, he is a future icon of Malawi’s dancehall; a hero in the making.

“Kamafuna ndikhale” will soon take the local media by storm. Malawians should therefore be on the lookout for this wonderfully baked blockbuster.

Although the artist has been facing financial challenges in his young music career, he promises to make more good music with the limited resources.
