Late husband’s gun places Malawian woman in trouble

policeA Malawian woman is in the hands of police in Rumphi after officers found her in possession of a rifle.

Malawi police identified woman as Lucy Gondwe, 65, and said she was found in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun.

According to police, the woman was detained by officers who were on operation when they found that the suspect illegally possessed the firearm.

After inquiries, it was established that the rightful owner of the rifle was the husband of the suspect who died in September, 2014.

Meanwhile, police investigations on the matter are still underway. Gondwe hails from Chivwanyuma village, Traditional Authority Mwalweni in Rumphi district.

Was the gun licensed by the late husband & expiry date wasn’t yet the time it was found in possession of the widow?If,yes,it must be taken of course as part of the husband’s left worthy and deserve to be in the house together with her.Otherwise,if non of the two,the thing we generally know has restrictions since it’s a lethal weapon.

    1. Dozidozi, possibly she thought like just the way one inherits a hoe. This shows how deep rooted ignorance is in our society. Requires massive civic education by relevant authorities regarding disposal of such deadly weapons when the licenced owner is dead.
