The appeals committee has resolved to postpone the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) elections following an appeal by presidential candidates Wilkins Mijiga, Willy Yabwanya and Tiya Somba Banda.

On Friday evening , Malawi24 reported that  chairman of the appeals committee Justice LP Chikopa advised the electoral committee to postpone the elections following the violation of Article 22 (1) of FAM Statuses.

Article 22 stipulates that the list of 36 names of the affiliates be sent to FAM General Assembly at least 15 days before the date of the Assembly.

“The violation of Article 22 (1) constitutes a flouting the duties of the Electoral Committee as set out in Articles 2 (1) and 6 (1),(b),(c),(d) and (e) of the FAM Electoral Code,” reads part of the appeals statement.

The appeals committee then directed the Electoral Committee to postpone the elections until there is compliance with Article 22 (1) and (5) of the Fa’s Statuses.

This forced the Electoral  Committee which is being led by Justice Sunduzwayo Madise to postpone the elections as directed by the appeals committee.

This will mean that a list of the 36 candidates should be submitted at least 15 days before the elections.

However, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) will still go ahead where by the Fa will discuss some other issues.
