Goals from Henry Kabichi and Diverson Mlozi inspired Malawi Super league champions Big Bullets to a comfortable 2-nil victory over Mzuni FC in a league match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts, who have successfully defended their title, dominated both halves as the visitors failed to withstand the heat exerted by the run away league leaders.

Bullets had more than 8 shots at goal but Rabson Chiyenda in goals for the Green intellectuals was at his level best to deny Chiukepo Msowoya, Jafali Chande and Mussa Manyenje from scoring.

Chiyenda saw his thunderbolt tipped over the crossbar by Chiyenda who was on course to deny Bashir Maunde from finding the back of the net.

At the other end, Owen Chaima, who was making his first start since August this year, was on holiday as Mzuni FC strikers were kept at bay by Sankhani Mkandawire, Chiku Kanyenda and Yamikani Fodya.

Midway through the half, a mistake in defence by the visitors allowed Msowoya an opportunity to score, but the forward striker shot with from a close range.

Just few minutes before the interval, Chande showed good pace to drive into the visitors box, but Chiyenda showed real bravery to dive at the feet of the attacker and clear the ball away.

Come second half, Bullets continued to attack like vipers with Msowoya, Kabichi, Manyenje all testing Chiyenda who was very much alert between the two sticks. In the 53rd minute, Bullets took the lead through Kabichi who released a 20 metre drive to beat Chiyenda into the top corner, 1-0.

Manyenje was then substituted for Mlozi whilst Dave Moyo came in for Hudson Milanzi.

Mzuni’s first shot at goal came through Wacheta Mwenefumbo whose low drive was well saved by Chaima.

The defending champions then had all the opportunity to double the lead but Msowoya’s shot was once again well saved by Chiyenda for a corner from which Mlozi scored his goal, 2-0.

Mzuni’s hopes of a come back suffered a huge blow when skipper Victor Gondwe was given marching orders following a second bookable offence.

Thoko Mbandambanda and Omega Mhone came in for Patrick Tembo and Mwenifumbo respectively whilst Pilirani Zonda came in for Dave Ng’ambi.

In the 80th minute, Bullets’s Msowoya almost scored from a close range but the former Orlando Pirates forward headed over the crossbar and after 90 minutes of entertaining football, it ended 2-nil in favor of Bullets.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Bullets’ victory, team manager Rahim Ishmael said his team deserved all the three points whilst Mzuni FC mentor Alex Ngwira blamed the Wanock Mlenga officiating team for the loss.

Fodya was named man of the match.

The result sees Bullets taking their tally to 60 points and a victory in their remaining two games will see them surpassing last season’s 62 point mark.

As for Mzuni, a point will be enough to seal their place in the top flight next season.

In other result, Civo Service United got the better of Moyale Barracks, beating the Soldiers 1-nil at Civo Stadium.
