Chairperson in the department,Thom Mnthali told Malawi24 that houses have been damaged in the areas of Inkosi Mzukuzuku and Inkosi Mzikuwola.

“About 50 houses have been destroyed in the area of Inkosi Mzukuzuku while others have also been destroyed in other areas including that of Inkosi Mzikuwola,” said Mnthali.

He added that the victims are being kept temporarily in churches and in school as they wait to hear from the district council on the way forward.

Efforts to talk to Mzimba district commissioner Thomas Chirwa proved futile.

This comes amid reports that heavy rains have also displaced people in other parts of the country.
