Man arrested for being found in possession of drugs

Malawi police in  Zomba  are keeping in custody a man after he was found in possession of medical drugs without a licence.

Zomba police deputy spokesperson Davie Sulumba confirmed the arrest of Master Nakhonya, 39.

Speaking to Malawi24, Sulumba said police officers who were on duty were tipped off that the suspect was selling medical drugs at Sunuzi markert.

Arrested“Immediately we logged a follow up and Nankhonya was handcuffed on the spot,” Sulumba said.

Police found the suspect with 2200 capsules of indocide, and 13 bottles of benzylpenecilin among other drugs. Sulumba advised the general public not to buy medical drugs in local markets as other drugs might be expired due to poor storage.

Nankhonya who hails from Masauli village Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje will answer charges of being found in possession of medical drugs without a licence, which is contrary to section 65 of Phamacy and Poisons Act.
