Standard Bank vehicle hit and kills man in Dedza

A 28 year-old man crossing the M1 road in Dedza was hit by a Standard Bank vehicle at Kachere trading centre in the district, Malawi Police say.

Dedza deputy police publicist Constable Cassim Manda identified the victim as John Mandirosi. He further said Beleke Mwafongo, driver of the vehicle, is now being kept in custody.

road accident“The vehicle is a Toyota Corolla registration number B5789 belonging to Standard Bank which was driven by the suspect who was coming from Lilongwe going to Blantyre.”

“Due to impact he (Mandirosi) sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Dedza District hospital,” Manda said.

Manda said the company car had its bonnet depressed and its windscreen shattered. Meanwhile police investigations are underway as the driver is still in custody.

According to Manda, Mandirosi hails from Kapesi village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasumbu in the same district.
