A Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier has been killed in action in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a United Nations mission following attacks by an unknown armed group on Sunday.
MDF public information officer Paul Chiphwanya confirmed the development saying Dyson William Mayawo, 50, was working as a Motor Man in Elingeti during the time of the ambush.
He was shot in the abdomen and was rushed to a hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding. Mayawo was based at Chilumba Barracks and was working as a staff sergeant in the department of Motor Platoon.
According to Amnesty international, in October alone a hundred people lost their lives in DRC which show an increment of attacks on civilians, men , women and children by rebel groups.
