The Lilongwe magistrate court on Tuesday remanded an Evangelical Church reverend to Maula prison for allegedly raping a 19 year-old girl.
Lilongwe police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula confirmed the development to Malawi24 and identified the suspect as Justin Katsala.
Dandaula said the incident happened on November 20, 2015 when the victim and her friend went to the reverend’s house for prayers.
“He asked one to go outside and wait for her friend after praying with them both, after the girl went out Katsala took advantage of the available chance and took the victim to his bedroom.”
“Katsala told the girl to undress, lie down and be singing hymns while raping her,” Dandaula said.
According to police the man of the cloth gave food to the young girl after the incident but she refused and she reported the matter to Kawale police who arrested Katsala.
The pastor will answer charges of rape which is contrary to Section 132 of the penal code.
Katsala hails from Bilira village in the area of Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu.
