Dedza Police Youth crowned FMB U-20 Champions

Dedza Police Youth have won Malawi’s First Merchant Bank (FMB) under-20 championship after beating Mangochi Police Reserve 3-2 on Saturday at Zomba Community Centre ground.

Dedza took the lead in the 26th minute through Sinkhani Wazomba and it was 1-0 at the break. However, 50 seconds into the second half, Luciano Paul of Mangochi levelled the scores.

fmb leagueAfter a few minutes, Henry Joseph put Dedza ahead but Harrison Kanjoka equalised for Mangochi to make it two all.

Then both sides looked aggressive as they were looking for a goal to earn them the title. In stoppage time, Dedza were awarded a penalty after one of Mangochi’s defenders handled the ball in the 18 yard box.

Henry Joseph converted the penalty as Mangochi Police Reserve goalie, Limbani Makalani, failed to save it. After 90 minutes it was 3-2 in favor of Dedza Police Youth.

As the champions, Dedza went away with K0.7 million while Mangochi were awarded K500, 000.

To reach the finals, Dedza beat Fish Eagles from Mzuzu 3-1, while Mangochi punched FC Disciples 5-4.
