Malawi super league rookies, Fisd Wizards’ hopes of surviving in the top flight league faced a severe blow as they were beaten 3-2 at the hands of Mafco fc at Chitowe Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Gerald Mkungula and Lawrence Mwehiwa were enough to sink Fisd Wizards. The match started on a higher note and both sides were in search for an early opener.

In the 25th minute, Lawrence ‘teacher’ Mwehiwe scored for Mafco fc to make it 1-0.

After that goal, Fisd Wizards started dominating possession as they were in search of an equalising goal but all their efforts yielded nothing as Mafco defended jealously.

In the 44th minute, Benard Chimaimba scored for Fisd Wizards but the referee ruled the goal as off side. The first 45 minutes of the game ended 1-0 in favor of Mafco.

Five minutes into the second half, Mafco increased their lead when Gerald Mkungula found the back of the net with a well taken drive.

A minute later Mkungula scored another beauty to make it 3-0 and beyond Fisd Wizards’ reach. After that goal, Benard Chimaimba reduced the deficit as he scored to make it 3-1.

Peter Mponda’s boys were boosted with that goal; Theu, Chimaimba and Ernest Tambe were displaying some brilliant passing football. Their style of play led to a goal when Rafique Namwera scored to make it 3-2.

Fisd Wizards kept on pressurizing the Salima based soldiers but a memorable comeback was never meant to happen.

The game ended 3-2 in favour of Mafco fc.

After the game Peter Mponda blamed the referee for the loss and he also said Fisd Wizards will try their best to make sure that they survive the chop in Malawi’s elite league.
