Malawi super league relegation threatened side Fisd Wizards have increased their chances of surviving in the top flight league after beating Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 on Saturday at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo.

Former Mighty Wanderers player, Precious Msosa, put the home side up with a goal in the early minutes of the first half.

The goal put the soldiers in panic as the league rookies were coming wave after wave in their half seeking another goal.

28 minutes into the first half, Wizards had a chance of getting another goal after they were awarded a penalty due to infringement in the soldiers’ 18 yards box.

Benard Chimaimba failed to convert the penalty as the ball went straight to Kamuzu Barracks goalie, Amadu Ali. Till the match break, it was 1-0 in favour of Wizards.

Come second half, the soldiers tried to find an equaliser through Manase Chiyesa and Zinjani Yona who looked furious but thanks to Fisd goalkeeper, Brighton Munthali, who saved a lot of shots.

After 90 minutes of regulation time it was 1-0 for Wizards.

FISD Wizards team manager, Fundi Akidu, thanked God and his boys for the win.

“Let us thank God that we have grab three points today and my boys for working hard with their unity,” said Akidu.

Team manager for Kamuzu Barracks, Lieutenant Jesman, said he cannot blame anybody for the loss.

“It happens and we cannot blame anyone for a loss today but anyway our boys were committed,” said Jesman.

The Lilongwe based soldiers will be having another task to do on Sunday afternoon as they will be meeting current league leaders, Big Bullets, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Wizards are still at the bottom of the Super League ladder with a point behind 14th placed Epac FC who have 19 points but they both have 6 games to go.
