Police commissioner Wilson Matinga dies after collapsing during a meeting

Malawi Commissioner of Police for Eastern Region, Wilson Matinga has died officials say.

According to reports, Matinga collapsed during a meeting at Chilema before he was taken to St Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He died last night.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known and police are yet to give more details on the same.

Funeral details are also yet to be made known in due course.

Last year, Matinga was transferred from Thyolo district to Zomba after violence that erupted in Thyolo where two people were left dead, there has been  a shakeup in the police service for the southern region.

Locals did not want ex Malawi President Joyce Banda to campaign in the area during the race to the disputed May 20 2014 polls.

Matinga was transferred on what was termed as ‘failure’ to advice officers on a good course of action on the matter as law enforcers were outnumbered and outdone by the irate people.
