Students from public universities and colleges of Malawi will on Tuesday hold vigils at Parliament in demand for thedispersion of loans and grants, Malawi24 has established.
The development follows the expiry of one week that the students body gave the government to disperse loans and grants to needy students in public universities and colleges in the country.
University of Malawi (UNIMA) vice President for the students union Thimbisa Siwande said leaders from four public universities and colleges namely UNIMA, Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) and Mzuzu University are to stage vigils at
Parliament.

“First it will be leaders, this Tuesday will be holding vigils at parliament in demand of dispersion of loans and grants” said Siwande.
Siwande further said if government fails to meet the demand all students will be mobilized to hold demonstrations.
“Well, if government fails we will go back to our friends and we will mobilise demonstrations to facilitate the speeding of dispersion of the munch needed loans and grants” added Siwande.
Malawi government established Higher Education Students ’ Loans and Grant Board (HESLGB ) to rescue needy students with grants for securing space in public and private universities across the nation in the 2015 / 2016 financial year .
The board which was instituted under the an Act of Parliament No. 2 of 2015 in a bid to provide high education loans and grants to needy students plans to disburse k1.5 billion for this fiscal year.
