Malawi’s 2015 Standard Bank Cup champions, Civo United were on Friday held to a goalless draw by Airborne Rangers in the Super League in a match played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

The game started on a high note and Civo looked more eager to find an early goal but Airborne’s goalie, Madalitso Makunganya, saved shots that he had no right to save.

Airborne Rangers also tried to break through Civo’s defense but John Lanjesi and his colleagues denied them by clearing ball away from the 18 yards box.

In the second half, coaches from both sides made substitutions but the changes yielded nothing as after 90 minutes it was 0-0.

Speaking after the match, Civo United coach Oscar Kaunda said despite the draw, he is still contented with his boys.

“Though we have failed to beat these soldiers today but I am satisfied with my team’s performance,” said Kaunda.

While Airborne’s coach Kondwani Gawani assured their fans that his team will remain in the top flight.

“I want to tell our supporters that they should not worry with today’s result since we are doing all what we can to survive in the league,” said Gawani.

Airborne Rangers are still in danger of being axed from the top flight as they are on 11th position with 21 points, only 2 points above Epac FC who are on position 13.

Civo are on position 9 with 28 points from 22 games and they are remaining with six games to wrap up the season.
