Mutharika: Accused of accepting to legalize homosexuality.

When Malawi President Peter Mutharika signed a multi million dollar aid from the Global Fund meant to help the health sector, he did not remember opposition Peoples Party (PP) would get irritated on the hidden conditions to the deal.

Some media reports suggest that Mutharika has given in to accept same sex marriage for Malawi to land such aid from the Global Fund.

While Malawi24 understands that the conditions to the deal are still unkown, it has irked the PP which believes Mutharika has really accepted to legalize same marriages, which have been a boiling debate in the country.

With the deal, the Global Fund will give Malawi US$378 million for the fight against HIV/TB and Malaria.

More to this the agreement has , $346 million which will be channeled towards  the lowering of HIV/TB prevalence and US$32 million for the fight against malaria.

Reacting to news,PP has blamed Mutharika for signing deal under unknown conditions one of which the PP believes is the acceptance to legalize same sex marriages.

PP leader in the National Assembly,Uladi Mussa said the party demand explanations from Mutharika on the signing of the aid in the national assembly.

“We would like to know why government had that grant under that condition, why accepting dirty money? we are religious people we can accept that in our country? said Mussa.

PP has since urged Malawians to stand strong against legalization of same sex marriages.

Malawi is one of the countries in Africa, under pressure to legalize homosexuality.

However Mutharika said citizens of the country are yet to decide on the legalization of homosexual through holding a referendum.

the Malawi leader has been under heavy criticism over his silence on the matter as well as his directive for the country to hold a referendum on the matter.

He is yet to clear reports on the matter.
