Reports that Malawi Parliament has bought four vehicles for leader of opposition Lazarus Chakwera, speaker of parliament, Richard Msowoya and his two deputies, all summing up to K300 Million have prompted commentators to call the officials selfish and inconsiderate.

Billy Banda, one of the commentators in the country said there was no need for government to buy the vehicles for the officials as the country is going through economic hardships.

“Government should have addressed the problems facing the country before buying the vehicles for the officials,” said Banda.

He further said that this shows that the officials are not considerate even though donors are not supporting the country and Malawians are being affected by hunger.

However, Public Relations Officer for Parliament Leonard M’mengezi said the speaker will hold a media briefing on Thursday to clarify the issue.

He further said that he is puzzled as to why the matter has come out now when the vehicles were purchased in the last financial year.
