Man arrested for trying to set fire on a market

In the work of mysterious infernos engulfing local markets and other public buildings, Malawi Police in Lilongwe city have locked in a man for attempting to set ablaze Malangalanga market.

According to Lilongwe police publicist, Kingsley Dandaula, the suspect has been identified as Limbani Alfandika, 45 and he got nabbed on Sunday, October, 22, 2015.

Dandaula said the man was seen on Sunday by some other guards in the city preparing himself to set the market on fire.

The guards reported him to fellow security personnel who later reported him to Lilongwe police.

ArrestedHe said the police rushed to where the suspect was residing and they arrested the man.

However the spokesperson said it will be too soon to say that all those structures that got razed down was due to such act saying investigations are still underway and the suspect is still being questioned as to what reasons he wanted to set the market on fire.

This month only fire has destroyed assorted merchandises worth millions of kwacha in different markets and other buildings as reported in Mzuzu market, Lilongwe postal office and other areas.
