As Mighty Wanderers and Civo United will be battling it out in Malawi’s Standard Bank cup final on November 1, five players will also be fighting for the golden boot award.

Raphael Phiri of Civo United is the current top goal scorer with 2 goals followed by his teammates Gerald Mkungula and Nelson Kangunje and Wanderers strikers Luke Milanzi and Muhammad Sulumba who have a goal each.

Phiri scored his two goals in Civo’s semifinal match against Big Bullets.

According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions manager Gomegzani Zakazaka, Phiri is the only player in the competition who has hit the back of the net twice in a single match.

Zakazaka added that the Bullets vs Civo game is the only game to have produced 3 goals this far while the rest of the games have been won by 1-0 wins or penalty shootouts.

This year’s Standard Bank Knockout cup winner will pocket K10 million plus a trophy whereas the top goal scorer will be K100, 000 richer.
