The Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) Blantyre campus on Friday crowned the new Mr and Miss MIJ in a glamorous event that was organised by the college’s students union.
Benjamin Mwale and Glory Mbaisa, are the new Mr and Miss MIJ respectively, after a tough contest.
In an interview, the newly crowned beauty queen, said she is glad to have carried the day and promised to use her new position to champion education among girls and reach out to the underprivileged in the society.
“I feel so happy to be the 2015 Miss MIJ and I thank God for making it possible. I promise to champion girl education and I will also reach out to the underprivileged in the society as I carry the MIJ flag,” said Glory Mbaisa who is currently pursuing her second certificate in journalism.
The new Mr. MIJ said that he will push for more entertainment events besides doing charitable works.
“Being an artist, I will use my position as Mr. MIJ to push for more entertainment events and promote fellow artists from MIJ besides charity works.
“I promise to do all that is required for me to do during my one year tenure,” said 19 year old Mwale.
One of the organisers Watipaso Mphande, expressed his gratitude to everyone who came to patronize the event.
“I want to thank all the patrons for making this a colourful and memorable event. Miss MIJ 2015 wouldn’t have been a success without the patrons. As the organizing team, we will continue working hard to bring more events on campus,” said Watipaso, the entertainment director in the MIJ Students Union.
One of the highlights for the day was a presentation by the diploma 2 students who did a mock wedding.
The occasion was sponsored by Carlsberg Malawi, who provided gazebos and drinks.
Benjamin and Glory will be Mr and Miss MIJ until October next year.
