The Nkhatabay magistrate court has slapped a 47 year old Malawian man with a 14 year jail sentence for raping a 12 year old girl.
Police publicist for the district sergeant Ignatius Esau said the man, Wilson Nyirenda, forced the girl into his house where he eased his randy on her.
Some people she met on her way home saw her crying while heavily breeding in her private parts. When they asked her, she narrated what happened and the people reported the matter to police.
Delivering his judgment, Magistrate Billy Ngosi said cases of rape are rampant in the district hence the convict deserved a stiff punishment to serve as a warning to others who may wish to do the same in future.
Nyirenda hails from Chikawanda village traditional authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district.
