Malawian man arrested after poisoning his neighbor

Mabvuto Magalasi, 45 for is in the hands o Malawi police after he  poisoned Peter Jamala of Vinyenje Village Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district, who happens to be his closest neighbor.

According to National Police Publicist, Senior Assistant Commissioner Rhoda Manjolo, Magalasi and Jamala have lived as neighbors and on September 9 this year the suspect prepared food (Nsima) which he shared with his friend Jamala.

ArrestedSoon after taking the food, Manjolo said Jamala started to complain about stomach pains. And was quickly rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Post-mortem revealed that death was due to food poisoning,” the police spokesperson explained.

The suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of murder.

Magalasi comes from Ngolowera Village, Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje.

In a related development, Police in Kasungu are keeping a man suspected to have defiled a 13 year old girl between 29-30th of September.

During these days, Gift Tembo,19 a close relative to the girl was given the mandate by the victims parents to care for the child as they had gone for medical treatment at Chatoloma.

“But in the middle of the night, the suspect went to the victim’s bedroom and defiled her and the matter was reported to police who made the arrest the same day,” explained Manjolo.
