As one way of preserving forests, the Malawi government has announced that it has put in place strict measures in order to rectify illegal production and transferring of forest products.

Some people in Malawi depend on charcoal burning in order to earn a living which is said to be fueling environmental degradation.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Mining Ben Botolo said the ministry is alarmed with the increase of illegal production and transfer of forest products.

Botolo further said it is a criminal offense to receive or transfer knowingly forest products without license.

He further said law enforcement officials will be monitoring the situation on the ground and take the right measures.
