Blantyre City Council (BCC) has Malawians to abide by the Red Star campaign so that the city should have a desirable environment for the residents.

According to the city council, some structures within the city need to be assessed for the city to wear a new face.

Kasunda says the campaign is serious.

BCC public relations manager Anthony Kasunda said property owners in the city must take action in accordance with the notices that are to be given to them after the assessment to be carried out by a taskforce of experts.

“Some buildings are to be demolished, others need renovation, while others need to have a new coat and others have satisfied us that they are worthy to be part of the desirable buildings in the city.

“If residents do not do what they are supposed to do we will take the plots and give them to potential investors,” said Kasunda.

President Peter Mutharika launched the Red Star campaign in February this year after touring Blantyre and Limbe central business districts.

During the tour Mutharika also noted that police officers’ houses at Limbe Police Station need to be renovated.
