Househelp arrested for allegedly stealing US$7000

A 19-year-old boy in Blantyre is in police custody for allegedly stealing US$7000 from his employer.

He has been identified as Richard Chakhumbira of Chadzunda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsomba in Blantyre District and is suspected to have committed the offence between the months of March and November, 2022.

According to Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama who is the Deputy Public Relations Officer of  Blantyre Police Station, the suspect was employed as a houseboy and was living with his employer at Nancholi Township in Blantyre.

It is further reported that during the months of March and November, 2022, the suspect stole money amounting to USD7,000 from a safe deposit box that was hidden in the master bedroom.

The teenager is also suspected to have further stolen K200,000 from his employer’s wallet and travelling bag.

The matter was reported to Blantyre Police Station where investigations were carried out that led to the arrest of the suspect.

He is expected to appear before court soon to answer a charge of theft by servant.
