The Joint Parliamentary Committee which is investigating the fertilizer procurement scandal has today sent back Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba.

Suleman

According to the Chairperson for Parliamentary Agricultural Committee Zameeer Suleman, the failure to meet Zamba was due to in-house issue which resolved to go into a vote where majority of the members voted that the SPC should not be interviewed by the committee but sent back as they did with Reserve Bank Governor and Eco Bank officials.

He said members have agreed to meet former SPC Zangazanga Chikhosi before meeting Zamba.

He, however, expressed concerns on what is going on saying it may dilute the whole purpose of the inquiry because the issue being investigated happened under current SPC.

The joint committee is expected to meet on Monday at 9am to continue meeting other stakeholders on the matter.

The inquiry into the 2022/2023 AIP comes after revelations that government paid K750 million to a United Kingdom  butchery for procurement of fertilizer and the company cancelled the deal after receiving the payment.
