Independent Shadow Parliamentarian for Mangochi Monkey-Bay Constituency, Hophmally Makande has blamed the previous “constituency holders” for failing to construct a tarmac road from Cape Maclear turn-off to Cape Maclear.

Hophmally Makande: I will upgrade the road

He said the area is privileged to enjoy massive development due to the natural endowment it is blessed with including being a World Heritage Centre; hence, he strongly accused the past leaders of failing to take advantage of the same to construct a good road in order to let development flow.

Makande who was People’s Party (PP) publicity secretary under Joyce Banda regime said this on Tuesday at Msaka Primary School ground in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Nankumba during a football bonanza he organised for the area’s youths.

“It pains me to see a pot-holed road to Cape Maclear. I tell you, the poor road network has taught first time tourists lessons of not visiting the area again.

“This is a bad news to write home about that has affected the country’s efforts to improve tourism and the locals’ livelihood,” he stated.

Makande said poor road network has also resulted in pregnant women and children losing their lives during their way to Monkey-Bay rural hospital as the area doesn’t have health centres.

“Much sorry is when I see pupils covering long distances to and from schools due to lack of schools yet there are Constituency Development Fund (CDF), Local Development Fund (LDF) and District Development Fund (DDF). There is need someone to rescue the people from this predicament,” he said.

To this end, Makande asked the people to vote for him during the May 21st 2019, saying he is development conscious, visionary and passionate leader who is ready to facelift the area.

Speaking in unison, a group of women in an interview said they are tired of maternal and neonatal deaths, hence, pledged to vote for someone who will construct a health centre at Cape Maclear.
