Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey has endorsed the Bwalo La Achewa Foundation (BOLA _ CEFO) which is led by Paramount Chief Lundu of Chikwawa.
The endorsement came a day after Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Samuel Tembenu also expressed support for the group.
Speaking during an induction service of T/A Mwadzama and Sub T/A Nkhanga at Nkhanga headquarters in Nkhotakota on Sunday which was presided over by Paramount Chief Lundu, Jeffrey asked all the Chewas not to hide their identity as a Chewa saying Bwalo La Achewa was born for them and will protect them so that the culture is preserved in Malawi.
She said Malawi has some Heritages such as Mzimba, Chikulamayembe, Ngoni Maseko, Chiwanja cha a Yao, Mulhakho wa Alhomwe, lamenting that the Chewas are the last to have their own heritage despite being the largest tribe in the country.
The DPP Secretary General assured all the Chewas in Malawi that those who are against Bwalo La Achewa have seen justice prevailing, expressing hope that they will rejoin the grouping as all are the Chewas regardless of their tribes in Malawi.
In his remarks, His Royal Highness, paramount Chief, Dr. Lundu of Chikwawa, urged all the Chewas in Malawi to be united as one in order for them to promote and preserve their culture.
Paramount Chief Dr. Lundu, took the event as a platform condemning in strongest terms the barbaric attacks on people with albinism for rituals that one day one would become rich after selling their body parts.
He urged all the Chewa leaders to register persons with albinism in their respective areas and always preach the message of love that those who are against them will face the law so that they live peacefully in a country of theirs.
He pleaded with the Chewa leaders involved in the barbaric attacks on people with albinism to change their mindset through demonstrating hard work for money and not waiting for miracle money which comes after selling body parts of fellow human beings.
The Paramount Chief then urged Community Policing structures to be vigilant by reporting to police all those suspected of doing the barbaric attacks for possible arrests.
Speaking earlier, Executive Director of Bwalo La Achewa Foundation Reverend Flywell Somanje said the endorsement of the grouping by government is a clear testimony that government is recognising Bwalo La Achewa Foundation as the only registered body for all the Chewas in Malawi.
Rev. Somanje asked all the Chewa chiefs who still are against the grouping to pass the message of truth and justice to their subjects that Bwalo La Achewa is for all the Chewas in Malawi while Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO) is an international organisation for the Chewas in countries such as Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi.
