Sponsorship for the Northern Region Simso League has been reduced to K5 million from K7 million in the 2018 season.

This was revealed at a preparatory meeting held at Mzuzu Stadium where Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) were meeting teams.

Msiska: confirmed

NFRA Vice Chairperson Felix Mbonekera Msiska said this has happened because the NRFA has decided to dump a co-sponsor for the league.

“Our sponsor Bishop Simama has told us that the sponsorship will remain to K5 million. As you are aware that last season there was a co-sponsor Pulora Company that pledged to give us K2 million but up to date that money is not yet in the Association’s account so we cannot trust them anymore,” said Msiska.

He added that 18 teams will participate in the 2019 season, down from 20 which participated in 2018.

Nkhatabay United, Lura FC and Bolero United have so far confirmed that they will not participate in this year’s league.

Albert Nkhata of Ekwendeni United said they will still participate even without enough sponsorship but he urged the league to improve refereeing by rotating the men in black.

During the meeting, clubs agreed to maintain the K150,000 affiliation fee and K5,000 player registration fee.

Sponsorship for the Northern Region Football League is the lowest among Malawi’s regional football leagues with the Southern Region Thumbs Up league being sponsored to the tune of K14 million.
