The Queens reclaimed their number one position in Africa but failed to win the bronze medal after succumbing to a resilient host with 38 basket to 15.

“I had the distinguished honor of welcoming and congratulating the Malawi Queens, the best national netball team in Africa, on their return from a successful tournament in Australia, where they came fourth” said Chakwera who leads opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) into 2019 elections as its presidential candidate.

“I was even humbled by the team’s indulgence of my offer to say a prayer for them, as it is my conviction that it is by this combination of great faith and great works that these Daughters of Malawi prove and embody the qualities that we must sustain to keep our nation’s flag soaring” he added.

On day one of the tournament, Malawi defeated Fast5 reigning champions, England, with 27 baskets to 26 in a historic win but lost to Australia and Jamaica.

On Day 2, the Queens reclaimed their top spot in Africa by beating South Africa with 33 baskets to 32 but lost to New Zealand which defeated Jamaica on the finals.
