Candlex Malawi Limited, the manufacturers of various households items, have contributed items worth K2.1 million towards an annual general meeting for Sports Writers Association of Malawi (SWAM) scheduled for Salima on Friday, 4 August 2017.

The company’s General Manager Fredrick Changaya presented the donation to the body on Wednesday in Blantyre where SWAM President Peter Kanjere and some other Executive Committee members were present.

And speaking to the media soon after handing over the donation, Changaya said his company thought it wise to associate with SWAM because Candlex promotes good health which is in line with what the Sports Journalists body does.

“We being a Malawian company, we take a look at events happening in the country so you being people responsible for covering sports which promote good health for a productive society, we couldn’t resist to jump on board to assist your body as you are going for your AGM by donating items worth K2.1 million.

“We love accountability and we won’t hesitate coming on board again if confronted and we also want to see results if Malawi is going forward in terms of sports because as a company, we will benefit if we are making progress in sports,” he explained.

And speaking on behalf of the body, Kanjere hailed Candlex for the gesture but he was quick to plead for more help from other companies.

“We are so happy and motivated considering that this is the biggest donation to the body so far and will work towards our charity event at Salima District Hospital.

We are still having some shortfalls but if a big brand like Candlex come on board, the message is disseminated to others who in turn, will love to be part of the event so we are very grateful to Candlex for this big donation,” he said.

Among the items, Candlex has donated branded t-shirts as well as gift packs worth K250,000.

The AGM will be part of activities commemorating the World Sports Journalism Day (WSJD), which falls on July 2 every year as per International Sports Press Association (Aips) calendar.

On the day of the AGM, Sports Writers will donate items to patients at Salima District Hospital before hosting Lucius Banda on Friday night.
