Two killed in road accident

A road accident has claimed lives of a pedestrian and a driver in Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe.

Reports indicate that the accident involved a Toyota Fortuner registration number LL3983 that was being driven by John Kanyenda, 45.

According to reports, Kanyenda was driving from Area 18 Roundabout towards Bingu National Stadium along Gulliver road.

Terrible accident.

“As he was passing Life Changers Church he saw another vehicle from the opposite direction overtaking and to avoid head on collision he swerved to the nearside off verge where he hit unknown pedestrian who died on the spot and the vehicle hit a tree,” reports reveal.

The driver was rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where he died while receiving treatment.The vehicle had its front part extensively damaged.

Full particulars of the pedestrian are yet to be established while the driver hailed from Mlowe village, Traditional Mwamulowe in Rumphi district.

Accidents in the country have been happening frequently that forced President Peter Mutharika to institute a committee to establish the cause.

Some church groupings are planning to hold players asking God to intervene in the accidents.
