No more weddings in gardens: BCC to finally ban weddings in residential areas

The Blantyre City Council (BCC) has disclosed that it is to effect stop orders against celebrating Zinkhoswe, birthday parties and bridal showers in residential areas of the city.

The development comes after a court lifted an injunction that stopped the city council authorities from effecting the order following a complaint from venue owners for such ceremonies.

Kasunda : Venue owners will be served with notices.

Confirming on the court ruling on the matter, BCC spokesperson Anthony Kasunda said the council will now serve stop order notices to venue owners who have been hosting such ceremonies in residential areas.

“There was an injunction which the court has decided on. The court has confirmed that the Council has the mandate to enforce stop orders of such events in residential areas,” said Kasunda.

He further expressed hope that venue owners are to comply with the orders of having ceremonies celebrated in areas where people live.

The residents of the city feared noise pollution as people used powerful sound systems during bridal showers or engagement ceremonies.

Reacting on the matter, the council placed a stop order on April 30, 2015 after noting with great concern the increase in the number of houses being turned into venues of public ceremonies such as weddings, engagements and bridal showers.

However the owners opted to obtain an injunction that blocked the effectiveness of the order.

  16. This is like this bcz BCC has seen that they dont make enough money from their halls. So they need forced money. Next will be bicycle riders paying taxes and prostitutes and churches

  17. So where can these parties been hosted for we have no community halls in our areas, build halls first in communities then stop them otherwise we have also right to our place.

  18. I don’t see any logical reason for the ban,i mean its not like we all can afford a commercial hall for our functions and as a matter of fact those residential gardens provide a good scenery to the function,be it a wedding or whatever, the thing is,zalowa dyela zinthuzi

  19. Boma ili lapenba misala chifukwa lasauka likufunika kuli Panga formatting liyambirenso zochita silikuyendetsa bwino dzikoli mayiko ena kulibe zimenezo zoletsa Zosangalatsa kuchita mma location Mmene aku khala izi zikungosonyeza kulephera bas asowa zochita

  22. And please remove all those who live in those top floors of all buildings in our cities. They are commercial plots for commercial buildings and not residential buildings. Thank you

  23. Kodi which books are u reading good pplo wen making these implementations, orders, policies what eva u name them? ????????? Instead of coming to the nation with good news that u have found solutions to our current power problems, water and etc u r busy bringing things that have no effect to human health. CRY FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL MALAWI. God c us thru.

  25. whats simple to tell escom no more blackouts and waterboard no more dry tapes than to tell someone to stop celebrating birthdays in his or home privacy. with this financial crisis who can afford to pay for this expensive halls?

  26. Agalu inu. Ngati funding yavuta kuboma plus tima donor kukunyanyalani musapangitse kuti ifenso tisauke. Masiku ano munthu akuyenera kulemera kuposa boma. Ineyo zimenezi sindikulola muzandipeze ndithu tiswana 2017

    1. If you’re guests are blocking streets, parking on other people’s grass, blocking gate entrances it no longer becomes private. Your privacy is respected but once unwanted noise causes others discomfort, the law will do its job. I’m sure your “lawyer” knows this.

  27. u pipo be serious munthu pakhomo pake asachitirepo party??aaaahahaha nde nzofoiratu nde palibe chifukwa choti munthu uzikhala ndimalo ako ako if de person is being restricted kupanga zinthu pamalo ake,,mabirthday party ayamba lero ?aaaaa leave us tizisokosera mmakwathumu

    1. Kupanga party pakhomo simulandu koma it becomes against law chifukwa cha mapokoso(sound polution) and its against laws of de land.mulandu wake timati common nuissance

    2. This is not SA. Too different countries, even in SA u can’t just have a home party without letting ur local police know. Otherwise they can shut the party down. Just becoz the law is not highly exercised doesn’t mean its not there!

    3. komanso maphokoso amakhala paliponse macompany ndimafactory ena akumaphokosera kwambiri y not restraining them to stop the noise? almost everyday muma bar umu mumakhala sound mwakathithi 6 to 6 24 hrs y not kumawaletsaso amenewowo??

    4. a Emmanuel what kind of laws of the land r u talking about?Formal or Informal?ngati ili formal tiuzeni chapter or section in de constitution of Malawi where it is written mwina ife panatiphonya pamene panalembedwa zimenezo

  28. BCC sanalakwise mukumtisokosela ndi tima gumbagumba tanu tamazeneneto ma location mu ,ofuna party ku hotel ,ku lodge kapena ku nyanja, musaiwale kuti kumadela athuwa timakhala ndi anthu amavuto monga a #mtima.

  29. kodi anthu amasiku ano mumaganiza bwanji popanga timalamulo tanu tofoyila. Mukakhuta kwanuko basi mulote timalamuloto mudziwaletsa anthu kuti izi ayi izo ayi . nde ufulu wachibadwidwe nde uti . Dont compare African continent with the West . Thoz who dont like the noise can go and live with the white coz we black ppo we like to cerebrate in all styles , we sing , we shout nthungululu without any restrictions, thats how we live .So pliz dont bring Western culture in Africa coz its selfish . Ndisapange ukwati kapena birthday party pa line kuwopa a neighbor ? za ziii

  30. Its good move but who will patrol the areas to make sure that we are not polluted as you put it.
Coz its like any one with a small garden with speakers then its money maker.
